A night beside Lake Naivasha breaks the journey with a gentler, water-wild beauty, before you descend south to Amboseli, where elephants walk beneath the snows of Kilimanjaro.

You land at Jomo Kenyatta International, where a Wecam guide is waiting — not with a clipboard, but with a cool towel and a calm welcome. The drive into Nairobi is your first taste of the country: jacaranda-lined avenues, the green uplands of the city, the distant silhouette of the Ngong Hills. The afternoon is yours to settle, or to visit the Giraffe Centre and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where rescued calves take their evening feed. Dinner under the acacias; a soft first night in Africa.
A scenic flight (or a rolling overland drive through the Great Rift Valley) brings you to the Mara — the theatre of the modern safari. Your tented camp sits on the banks of a river or the edge of the plains, and within the hour you are out on your first game drive. Expect lions before sundown: a pride rousing in the long grass, cubs tumbling, the air gold and still. You return to lanterns and a long dinner, the bush pressing close around the camp.
A dawn start, when the light is pure and the cats are still hunting. You spend the whole day out — a picnic breakfast beside a hippo pool, a slow approach to a cheetah on a termite mound, elephants moving in family processions across the horizon. In migration season (Jul–Oct) you may witness the river crossings: wildebeest hurling themselves into the Mara in their tens of thousands. An optional hot-air balloon at sunrise floats you above it all. You end the day at a sundowner, a drink in hand as the sky turns to ember.
A morning game drive, then a scenic descent into the Great Rift Valley — that immense geological scar that splits East Africa. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater jewel, fringed with fever trees and home to one of Africa's densest populations of fish eagles. An afternoon boat cruise drifts you past pods of hippo, and a walking safari on Crescent Island brings you on foot among giraffe, zebra and waterbuck — a rare, intimate perspective after days in the vehicle. The night is quiet, the lake still, the birdcall endless.
The drive south crosses Maasai land to Amboseli — a land of dust, mirage and the vast snow-capped dome of Kilimanjaro rising behind every horizon. Your first game drive is an introduction to the park's giants: Amboseli's elephants are some of the most studied and most approachable on the continent, and they move in great, slow families across the swamps. You will photograph them — tusks catching the light, the mountain behind — in the kind of frames that define a safari. Dinner is outdoors, the mountain a ghost on the horizon.
Two game drives bookend the day. At dawn the mountain emerges clear and immense; by mid-morning clouds often crown its peak. You track lions on the plains, find cheetah in the open grass, and watch elephant bulls wade deep into the green swamps to feed. A Maasai village visit offers a window into the culture that has shaped this land for centuries — the songs, the manyatta, the quiet pride. The day closes with a sundowner on a ridge, Kilimanjaro turning rose and then violet as the stars come out.
One final game drive at first light — a chance to say goodbye to the elephants, to the mountain, to the Africa you have spent a week falling for. After a leisurely breakfast you drive or fly back to Nairobi, where a day room awaits for a shower and a meal before your evening flight home. Your guide sees you to the airport. You leave with a full camera, a full heart, and a designer on the other end who is already planning your return.
